Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Her parents, Aridio and Asalia have both been Puerto Ricans. Her mother is from Puerto Rico and her father is Dominican. The year 2010 saw her move with her family to the Dominican Republic where they spent the next 7 years. Zoe's love for dancing was piqued while they were living in the Dominican. Zoe started her dance education with ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy. The lessons she learned were not just a wonderful outlet for an energetic, passionate child, it also proved to be the ideal preparation for her future career as a professional actor. As a teenager, Zoe and her family relocated to the United States where her love for dancing grew and her desire to perform in the theater grew stronger.
